-----------
1. OVERVIEW
-----------

MarkVision for Windows 95/NT4.0 has the following features:

1) A main MarkVision Printer window that shows much information.
It is also very configurable offering several view modes, and columns
that you can sort and eliminate (in the details view).

2) Multiple printer windows so that you don't have to keep all your
network printers all in one printer window. You can open multiple
printer windows and have some printers in one window and other printers
in another. You can create as many printer windows as you need.
You can manually setup these printer windows, or apply filters to
a window and let MarkVision select which printers go in which printer
window based on the filter you define. Be sure to check out this
new MarkVision feature! We think you will find it very useful.

3) A graphical status view of multiple printers. You can open as many views
as it is reasonable to see on your particular screen. You can then
minimize them all and create an icon on the Taskbar for each printer.
You can configure the icon to change or automatically open when
   an error occurs.

4) This MarkVision supports the following printer:
    <When using Windows 95>
       - Local parallel connection
       - Peer-to-peer connection
       - Point-to-point connection*
       - NetWare connection

    <When using Windows NT4.0>
       - Point-to-point connection*
       - NetWare connection

Windows NT4.0 does not support the local parallel connection and
peer-to-peer connection. However, normal printing without MarkVision
   control is available.

   * In point-to-point connection, printing is executed from the optional
client workstation at the printer with a built-in network adapter board
and which is directly connected to the network. Unlike the case with
peer-to-peer connection, it does not matter whether the other workstation
is operating. The printer can be used as if each client were sharing
     the local connected printers.

5) The "Events" history pull down in the Status View allows you to see
the history of all the error conditions that the printer has
   encountered.

6) The "Features" view inside the Status View. You can see all this
information and more from a single location.

7) The familiar Remote Control Panel and Job Statistics views too.

2. WORKSTATION REQUIREMENTS
---------------------------

- MarkVision for Windows 95 and NT4.0 operates on the following IBM-PC
  AT compatible machine (called DOS/V).
MarkVision does not operate on the RISC system using MIPS (R) R series,
  Alpha, or PowerPC.

     Intel(R) 486(25MHz) or more, Intel Pentium(R), Pentium(R) Pro

- Drive that can read 1.44 megabyte floppy disk or CD-ROM drive
  is required.

- Version 4.00.950a or later is required when installed in Windows 95.

- Version 4.00.1381 or later is required when installed in Windows NT4.0.

- 9 megabytes or more memory space on a hard drive is required when
  MarkVision is installed.

- 1 megabyte or more memory space on a hard drive is required when the
  printer driver is installed.

------------------------------
3. NETWORK SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
------------------------------

When MarkVision is used, the following conditions must be satisfied
with connections other than Local or peer-to-peer connections:

- Workstation Requirements:
Following modules are installed and correctly working.

   <When TCP/IP protocol is used>
       - Microsoft's TCP/IP Protocol

   <When NetWare is used>
       - Windows 95 : Novell NetWare Client 32 for Windows 95
       - Windows NT4.0: Novell IntranetWare Client for Windows NT

Note: Do not use the client software provided by Microsoft. Otherwise,
the client software will not operate normally.

Note: Do not use suspend mode or some power management control when
         you use MarkVision.
This MarkVision may not work correctly for them because some power
management control may not keep logical network connection.

- Printer Requirements:

Printer directly connected to the network with the network adapter with
  following firmware revision levels for

           - Ethernet-C board (10 Base-2/T) ... 4.128.1 or grater
           - Ethernet-D board (10 Base-T) ... 4.128.1 or grater

   NOTE:
Be sure to read the "Network Printer Utility Guide" that comes with
the Network Adapter. This section contains supplementary information
on setting or installing the network adapter from MarkVision.

--------------------------------
4. USER TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
--------------------------------

- About the coexistence with the MarkVision for Lexmark printer.

Fujitsu can not coexist with "Lexmark MarkVision" of Lexmark printer
and "Lexmark TCP/IP Network Port" on the same environment.
Don't make these MarkVisions coexist on the same environment.

- About the coexistence with the "Lexmark TCP/IP Network Port"
  (Only Windows NT4.0)

"Fujitsu Network Port" that Fujitsu MarkVision provides and "Lexmark TCP/IP
Network Port" that is attached to Windows NT4.0 in the standard can not
coexist. Either "Fujitsu Network Port" or "Lexmark TCP/IP Network Port" is
possible. When both are installed in your workstation, the problem that
Network port become two ports and a name changes occurs.
  But, you can print normally.

- About the BIOS setting of Parallel port for your workstation

Your PC's Parallel Port needs to be configured as NORMAL, STANDARD, or
placed in COMPATIBILITY mode in your PC's BIOS Setup. EXTENDED, ECP, or
other settings such as this, generally do not work with the Windows 95
  supplied LPT.VXD driver.

- About the confirming the parallel port setting

Confirm that the [NPAP] mode in the parallel port setting is [AUTO] or [ON].
And set the [BI-DIRECTION] mode to [ON].

- MarkVision installation

"To install MarkVision onto Windows NT4.0, log-on WindowsNT using the account
group authority of the adminidtrator. To uninstall MarkVision, log-on the
Windows NT as the account group of the administrator. After installation,
the administrator and the adminidtrators group, and the users group can use
MarkVision functions. The other group user can also use MarkVision if she/he
is added the user(or administrator)level privilege to the account.

- Local/server installation

Select local installation to install MarkVision on a local hard disk
of a general user. The user can select the components to be installed.

Server installation is provided for the network administrator.
When MarkVision is installed on a server, all MarkVision files and
printer driver files are installed on a shared network drive.
Users can use these files in the following two ways:

  1) Execution from a server

Network users can directly run MarkVision using the files as is
on remote servers. This method minimizes the hard disk space
requirements on each workstation running MarkVision.

  -OR-

  2) Installation from a server

General users can install MarkVision and the printer driver on
each local workstation without using MarkVision system floppy disks
or CD-ROM. This method relieves the burden on the network
administrator. The network administrator need only send an e-mail
message to the users to inform them of the location of the SETUP
program used for installing MarkVision and the printer driver.

Note that, as far as server, subdirectory, and subfolder names are
concerned, MarkVision will recognize them only if each consists of
no more than eight alphanumeric characters.

- Installation of the printer driver after server installation

When server installation is used, all MarkVision files are copied
to the specified server folder (directory). All printer driver files*
are also copied. For example, if [X:\MVSERVER] is selected as
the server folder (directory), the MarkVision files are copied to
this server folder. The printer driver files are copied to
subfolder [X:\MVSERVER\DRIVERS.W95] (for Windows 95) or
  [X:\MVSERVER\DRIVERS.WNT] (for Windows NT4.0).

When a printer driver is installed on a local workstation, the folder name
on the network server must be remembered. The printer wizard prompts
the user for the name during installation.

The install program uses the printer wizard to install a printer driver.
The printer wizard can also be started by selecting the [Settings],
[Printers], and then [Add Printer] icons under Windows. On the printer
manufacturer and model selection screen, select [Have Disk...].
On the following [Install From Disk] screen, enter the above folder name.
The required printer driver information file (xxxx.INF) is stored
  in this folder.

*Note: Since the printer driver files for PrintPartner 12V/16DV/16ADV
is not included on this PrintPartner Software CD-ROM Ver1.0,
please manually copy all of the latest driver files from
attached floppy disks to the subfolder for the printer driver
         under the server folder.

- Uninstalling MarkVision

Some files will remain when MarkVision is uninstalled. These remaining
files will not cause any problems in operation. However, to completely
remove the files, delete the files and directories/folders individually.
These files and directories/folders are listed below:

      - Root directories/folders

         LEXBCE32.LOG
         MV32.LOG

      - MarkVision directory/folder (Example: C:\MarkVis)

         FJ_MARKV.FTG
         INVENTOR.DAT
         INVENTOR.TXT
         JOBSTATS.TXT
         MARKVIS.GID

      - Conventional MarkVision directory and folder in
         Windows 95 "START MENU"

         (Example: C:\WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\MARKVISION)

      - Old MarkVision directories/folders in PROFILES of Windows NT 4.0

         (Example: C:\WINNT\PROFILES\ALLUSERS\STARTMENU\PROGRAMS\MARKVISION)

- Uninstalling server-installed MarkVision

When a shared hard disk in a network is selected as the server on which
MarkVision is installed, each client can install MarkVision on his or
her workstation or execute operations using the server files directly.
For only those workstations that used server installation to install
MarkVision, use the following procedure to uninstall MarkVision.
If the regular procedure is used to uninstall MarkVision, the server
  files will also be deleted.

  (1) Temporarily release (disconnect) the connection between
       the server and network.

  (2) Use [Add/Remove Programs] on the [Control Panel] to select and
       uninstall MarkVision.

  (3) In this case, the files installed on the server are not deleted.

  (4) To delete the server files later, delete the directory installed
       on the server.

- MarkVision cannot detect a printer.

A printer indicated as [Not Found] in the [Status] column on the detailed
display means that the printer was displayed when MarkVision was started
previously, but is not found this time. When MarkVision is started for
the first time, no printers are indicated as [Not Found]. A printer
indicated as [Not Found] must have been displayed at least once
  when MarkVision was started previously.

A printer can be indicated as [Not Found] for a number of reasons.

  1) The most common reason is that the printer power is off.
In this case, turn on the power to the printer. Then, restart
MarkVision or select [Refresh] to change the status from
     [Not Found] to [Online].

  2) Another possibility is that the printer has been replaced by another
model or another vendor's printer after MarkVision was last called.

The [Properties] option tab of [Configure] can be used to specify
whether [Not Found] is to be displayed for a printer. A printer indicated
as [Not Found] can also be removed by selecting the printer, clicking
the right mouse button, and then selecting [Remove] on the popup menu.

If [Save Printer Registry] of the MarkVision items is not checked,
the MarkVision window size, position, and so on will be saved. However,
the printer displayed in MarkVision will not be registered. When MarkVision
is started the next time, the printer that matches the setup items such as
the folder setting will be displayed in MarkVision

  Note:
After a printer indicated as [Not Found] is removed from the MarkVision
printer window, stop MarkVision to save this information. Otherwise,
[Not Found] will be displayed again if [Refresh] is selected.

- Bidirectional communication with a printer is interrupted or can not
find the printer condition while MarkVision is being used.

If bidirectional communication with a printer is interrupted while
MarkVision is being used, use the following procedure to restore
  communication:

  (1) Select [Refresh] on the [Printers] menu of MarkVision to refresh
      MarkVision.

  (2) When [Non-bidirectional Printers] is set after MarkVision
is refreshed, perform [Reset Adapter] of the [Adapter Settings]
      tab of [Printer Properties].

  (3) Then, select [Refresh] on the [Printers] menu of MarkVision to
refresh MarkVision. (If communication is not restored,
      repeat the procedure.)

- [Refresh] is performed, but [Detecting] remains as is.

This condition rarely occurs due to line trouble such as
disconnection of the network cable. Press the CTRL + ALT + DEL keys
to stop the MarkVision task. Then, restart MarkVision.

- Printer names on the MarkVision main screen

Except for detailed display, printer names are displayed on
the MarkVision main screen as a character string with the connection
name ([IP]...) added automatically. If a printer name is changed,
  also change the connection name.

------------------------
5. PROBLEM DETERMINATION
------------------------

- MarkVision cannot detect a printer connected locally (Windows NT4.0 only).

MarkVision does not support printers connected to local ports for Windows
NT4.0. To display a printer using MarkVision, connect a network adapter
  to the printer.

- A communication error occurs when the [Advanced Settings] button of
the [Adapter Settings] tab is pressed.

If a communication error occurs when the [Advanced Settings] button
of the [Adapter Settings] tab is pressed, check whether the [Gateway]
address and BOOTP server address have been set up correctly. If one of
the addresses is outside the address range permitted by the net mask,
MarkVision will display this error. Note that an address consisting of
all zeros can never be specified. Set up a valid address using the remote
control panel or the printer control panel. If the remote control panel
is used, first refresh MarkVision to recover from the communication error.

- A communication error occurs when an [Advanced Settings] item of an adapter
  is changed.

MarkVision might display a communication error when the TCP/IP address,
net mask, or gateway address is changed. Because much time is required
to refresh the information related to the network adapter, this error
can occur due to communication protocol time-out. However, even if a
communication error is displayed, the TCP/IP address and so on may have
been refreshed correctly for the network adapter. Use the following
procedure to determine whether refresh is successful:

  1) Click [Refresh] on the pulldown menu of the MarkVision main menu.

  2) Click the [Advanced Settings] button of the [Adapter Settings]
     tab to display the menu.

  3) Confirm that the TCP/IP address, net mask, and gateway address
     have been refreshed correctly.

- The page count counter reset to 0 returns to its original value.

Do not perform the following operations because the [User Controlled
Page Count] of the [Statistics] tab will not be reset correctly:

  (1) Pressing the [Reset] button of the [Statistics] tab to reset
the [user Controlled Page Count] to 0.

  (2) Pressing the [Online] button on the [Control Panel].
(At this time, the printer is offline.)

  (3) Pressing the [Reset] button on the [Control Panel] to set
      the printer online.

  (4) Pressing the [Refresh] button of the [Statistics] tab after
the printer is restored to online status.

The [Statistics] tab here is the tab of [Properties] opened by double-
clicking the printer icon (or clicking the right mouse button and
  selecting [Open] and [Statistics]).

- No notification even if communication is disconnected.

Disconnection of communication with the printer can be posted
by specifying [Notify if bidirectional communication is lost]
using the properties [Options] tab of the [Configure] menu.
If no notification is posted even if communication with the printer
  is disconnected, execute [Refresh].

- The [Fujitsu Network Port] cannot be added because an error occurs
when an attempt is made to add the port. Otherwise, the printer
bit map on the status screen does not change when a printer error
  occurs. (Windows NT4.0 only).

This event occurs in the following case. At this time, delete the
description in the hosts file. Otherwise, add an adapter using a
host name described in the hosts file.

   - When adding an adapter with TCP/IP setting, a DNS name is used instead
of an IP address. In addition, the IP address of the adapter has been
registered in the hosts file of the workstation using a name other
     than the DNS name.

- Can not access the port (Port Conflict)

If you see an error like "There was an error writing to LPT1: for the
printer (Printer Name): Cannot access the port. It may by in use by
another program. Quit other programs and try printing again" when you
use MarkVision for a parallel connected printer, you can resolve the
problem by restarting Windows95 after you confirm the printer is turned
  on and ready.

It is recommended that the parallel connected printer be turned on and
ready to print before starting MarkVision and Windows95.
Install both the driver with (MV) and without (MV), Then select the
driver with (MV) to be connected with LPT.

- The case of the new MarkVision is installed in the workstation which the old
MarkVision ahs already been installed in.

    a) The case of this MarkVision is installed under the condition that
the MarkVision(Old Version) has already been installed in the PC.

        1) Uninstall the MarkVision is already installed in PC.
(Please refer to the manual of the MarkVision which has already
been installed and Readme for uninstall method.)

        2) Install this MarkVision after you uninstalled the MarkVision
(Old Version) and restarted the PC.

    b) The case of this MarkVision was installed under the condition that
the MarkVision(Old Version) had already been installed in the PC.

        1) Uninstall this MarkVision.

        2) Restart the PC after the uninstallation of this MarkVision finished.

        3) Uninstall the MarkVision(Old Version) was installed first after you
           restarted the PC.
(Please refer to the manual of the MarkVision which has already been
installed and Readme for uninstall method.)

- When the file of job statistics was created, some of the value were not
  recorded in the field.

When the Job Statistics file is create, the value is not recorded in the
field of "Port ID", "Host Name", "User Name", "Source Protocol", "Job Name"
and "Queue Name". Refer to the appropriate section of the User's Guide or
  Help.

- The printing job is not counted normally.

The printing job may not be counted normally when many printing jobs
is printed one after another at high speed.

- When the bidirectional communicate error occurs, the printer isn't recognized
  from MarkVision.

When you send a printing job to the printer during the printer error "paper
empty of MFF" occurs,do not reset the printer.
At this time, supply paper and cancel an error because a problem occurs
  when the printer is reset.
