This CD, containing 'PPMENU for PrintPartner 12V/16DV/16ADV' (hereafter
referred to in this document as PPMENU3), allows you to easily change your
printer's features directly from your computer display and keyboard in place
of the printer's control panel.

How to install and run PPMENU
=============================

  1. Be sure to use the INSTALL program to install PPMENU to your hard disk.
     PPMENU will not run if you just copy all the files to hard disk.
     Change to the CD-ROM drive and just type "UTILITY\PPMENU\PP12_16\INSTALL"
     and press the ENTER key at the DOS prompt to install this program.
     You can select target drive/directory, and some European languages other
     than English for the program in the install program.
     The optional European languages are French, German, Italian, Spanish
     and Swedish.

  2. You need about 600 KB of free space on the target drive onto which
     PPMENU will be installed. The INSTALL program checks the availability
     of this space. If there is not enough space, the INSTALL program gives
     a warning message. If this happens, you should make space on the target
     drive or select another drive as the target in the INSTALL program.

  3. The INSTALL will automatically add the PPMENU program path to the
     AUTOEXEC.BAT file if you select the option to do so. If you do not choose
     to have the installer update the autoexec.bat file and you want to run
     PPMENU from a directory other than the one in which it was installed,
     you should edit the PATH setting in autoexec.bat yourself, using a text
     editor and restart the computer.

     EXAMPLE:
     Original PATH line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file

         PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\;C:\DOS

     Updated path will be like this

         PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\;C:\DOS;c:\PPMENU3

  4. To run PPMENU, go to the PPMENU3 directory first, and type
     PPMENU3 and press the ENTER key. If your PATH setting in autoexec.bat
     contains the path to the PPMENU3 directory, you just type PPMENU3 and
     press the ENTER key.

Option switches
===============
     (words in [ ] are optional)

     To load PPMENU as a TSR in main memory and execute PPMENU.
     Option sets the hotkey combination used to popup PPMENU, the default
     hotkey is Ctrl+Alt+p. x can be any ASCII character.
       PPMENU3 /R[:Alt+x]      or /R[:Ctrl+x],
       PPMENU3 /R[:Ctrl+Alt+x] or /R[:Alt+Ctrl+x]

     To load PPMENU as a TSR in memory and not execute PPMENU.
       PPMENU3 /L[:Alt+x]      or /L[:Ctrl+x]
       PPMENU3 /L[:Ctrl+Alt+x] or /L[:Alt+Ctrl+x]

     To remove PPMENU from main memory at the DOS prompt.
       PPMENU3 /S

     To display color mode switch.
       PPMENU3 /M

     To send all settings to the printer.
       PPMENU3 /F:mysetup[.cfg]     (mysetup.cfg is your setup file)

     To option switch for Windows 95.
       PPMENU3 /U

     To see the help screen.
       PPMENU3 /?

     The option switches are not case-sensitive.
     /M,/U operate as toggle switches.

TSR
===
  Using the TSR, you can setup your printer without exiting from a DOS
  application. To load the TSR module in main memory, type;

      PPMENU3 /R

  Once loaded, it occupies in about 40KB of conventional memory. It can be
  run without exiting the DOS application by pressing;

      Ctrl+Alt+P (default pop-up hotkey)
  or the hotkey combination specified when PPMENU was run.

  The normal PPMENU start-up screen will appear and the program will
  function as normal. PPMENU first saves all the status, memory and screen
  information of the application to EMS memory if available, leaving
  about 510KB of free memory. Failing this, it saves it to about 1MB of
  free space on your hard disk. This storage is only temporary. You can
  return to your application by exiting from PPMENU.

  To remove the TSR module from memory type at the DOS prompt;

      PPMENU3 /S

  There are some notes about using PPMENU as a TSR.

  1. Another program may already use the Ctrl+Alt+P key combination for some
     special function. In which case the key combination for PPMENU
     must be changed. To do so, type;

         PPMENU3  /R[:Alt+x]        or
         PPMENU3  /R[:Ctrl+x]       or
         PPMENU3  /R[:Alt+Ctrl+x]   or
         PPMENU3  /R[:Ctrl+Alt+x]

     where x denotes the last key of the hotkey combination; x can
     be any ASCII character.

     (The program option switches are not case-sensitive)

  2. Please load the TSR module of the PPMENU last, after loading all other
     TSR modules including PRINT.EXE. If you don't, the system may not
     function correctly.

  3. Please avoid loading the TSR module of the PPMENU when you have
     temporarily exited to the DOS prompt from any DOS application. (the
     SYSTEM command in Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS, for example). If you do, the
     system may not work correctly.

  4. If PPMENU was loaded as a TSR at the prompt and Windows3.x was run, you
     cannot popup the PPMENU in a windows3.x DOS prompt. If you would like
     to run PPMENU at the DOS prompt in Windows3.x, you must LOAD PPMENU AS A
     TSR IN THE WINDOWS3.x DOS PROMPT.
     Before you do this, please check the "Memory Options : EMS Memory Locked"
     check box in the Advanced options of the DOS prompts PIF (DOSPRMPT.PIF)
     by using the windows3.x PIF editor.

  5. When PPMENU was loaded as TSR, "/F" option is not available. Just use the
     hotkey and Pop-up PPMENU.

  6. When PPMENU is mode resident, you can't Upload printer information.
     Select "SEND" to make each setting value valid, cettainly.

  7. Please be sure not to use PPMENU3.EXE in TSR with "PPMENU.EXE" and
     "PPMENU2.EXE".
     It is not possible to operate.
