2. INSTALLATION FROM FLOPPY DISK
--------------------------------

The "PrintPartner Printer Driver" Floppy Disks contain a utility for
installing the PrintPartner Series driver files to Microsoft
Windows 3.1 & 95. By using Install.exe the install process is made
easy.

Use the following procedure.

(1) To install the FUJITSU PrintPartner Series printer driver about 3MB
of free hard disk space is required. Confirm that this amount of
disk-space is available before beginning the installation.
(2) Start Windows.
(3) <Windows3.1>:From the Program Manager [File] menu, choose [Run].
     <Windows95> :[Start], choose [Run].
(4) Insert the "PrintPartner Printer Driver" Floppy Disk 1 in the Floppy
Disk drive and type the drive letter for the FD drive and the directory
     path name.
-For example, if the drive letter for the Floppy drive is A,
<Windows3.1>:type A:\INSTALL.EXE, and click the OK button.
<Windows95> :type A:\DRV_INST.EXE, and click the OK button.

(5) Follow the prompts displayed by the install program.

If you have already installed the previous version of the driver (Ver 1.00),
after the installation of the newer version of the driver (Ver 1.10) you will
encounter the problem that the default setting is changed in the old driver.
To avoid such problem, please delete the older driver and reinstall the newer
driver from the newer driver's disk. Alternatively you may delete the file
FJPX.INI from the Windows directory.

-----------
3. OVERVIEW
-----------

This printer driver supports printers using PCL5e or PCL6 command
language. You can use the driver in Windows 3.1x and Windows 95. For
Windows NT 3.5 and Windows NT 4.0 please use the drivers especially
provided for these platforms.

As the printers support 2 command languages you 2 versions of the driver
for both languages selectable at the installation. Typically the PCL6
language is preferable since it allows more compact print data. However,
as it is new some applications may create better printing results when
using PCL5e.

The driver supports some special features which are not common among
printer drivers:

   - Overlays: With support from the driver with any application you
can create and store print data which is to be mixed (overlayed)
with the actual print data. You can use this function for any
purpose and with any application. As a special feature you can even
download such overlays to the optional flash simm available for the
printer and store it there permanently, thus saving the time to send
the overlay data with every page image.

   - n-up: The driver allows to print 2 or 4 pages on 1 sheet. This
function helps you to save paper. As it requires a special print
processor it can only be supported in Windows 95 since Windows 3.1x
does not support the usage of print processors.

--------------------------------
4. USER TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
--------------------------------

- Installing the printer with MarkVision support:

To install the MarkVision support with the printer driver it is
mandatory to install the driver using the drv_inst.exe program on
the 1st floppy disk. Installation using the Add Printer wizard does
not include the full MarkVision support and thus is not possible
   for this type of driver.

- Windows NT 4.0 Server Installation:

Server installation is not available for this driver. Please install
the driver locally at each workstation where the printer is connected
or to be used via the net.

- Using Overlays:

Basically overlays are ordinary print data. Thus, overlays are related
to the paper orientation (portrait or landscape). Using an overlay in
another orientation then for what it was created may result in incorrect
printout. It is recommended that you indicate or otherwise remember
   the orientation of the overlay.

Note: This function currently is only available in the PCL5e driver.

- Using n-up mode:

This mode requires the spool setting to be set to [EMF]. The procedure
for changing the spool setting is described above.

As described above n-up mode is using a print processor. Thus, it is
not supported in the Windows 3.1x environment.

Acrobat Reader cannot print in n-up mode as it seems to use it's own
   print processor.

- Printer Maintenance Buttons:

"TestPrint", "FontList", "MacroList" and "ClearFlashSIMM" do not work
when the printer is connected via network. These buttons only work under
Centronics connection. These buttons do not work when MarkVision software
   is active.

5. PROBLEM DETERMINATION
------------------------

- Wrong printing of overlapped graphics in Auto mode:

You may encounter that some documents can not be printed correctly with
the [Auto] setting for [Graphics Mode] when you use overlapped graphics.
Printing such document with [Raster] mode should solve the problem.

- Wrong printing of some documents in PCL6 mode:

You may encounter that some documents can not be printed correctly in
PCL6 mode (selected at installation). Please try to print such document
with [RAW] mode selected as spool data format in the spool settings.

- Wrong printing of some documents in PCL5e(Fujitsu GL/2) mode:

You may encounter that some documents can not be printed correctly in
PCL5e (Graphics Mode = Fujitsu GL/2). Please try to print such document
with [Raster] mode selected as Graphics Mode in the Printer Options tab.

- Wrong printing of some documents in infrared connection:

You may encounter that some documents can not be printed correctly through
infrared connection. Please try to print such document with [RAW] mode
selected as spool data format in the spool settings.

- Writing overlay data to flash simm:

When you write overlay data to the flash simm repeatedly, You may encounter
that an application error occurs. Please close the printer properties
whenever you write overlay data to the flach simm.

- Bitmap Softfonts:

Currently it is not possible to use downloaded bitmap fonts. Accordingly
the driver's "Fonts" tab containing the bitmap softfont manager is grayed.

- N-Up printing:

The N-Up mode may not work correctly if you change the printer model name
using the "Rename" function in the Printers Window.

- NotePad/WordPad printing:

In case that the application is NotePad or WordPad, the duplex printing
is active, the total pages are odd number except one and the copy number
is more than one, the final page is not printed. Please use PCL6 driver
   to get correct print out.
