PREFACE
=======

Thank you very much for purchasing our FUJITSU MO Device Driver Package.
This package works properly under the following conditions;

OS:
- Windows NT Workstation Version 3.5(US, Intel)
- Windows NT Workstation Version 3.51(US, Intel)

MO DRIVE:
- FUJITSU M2511(128MB), M2512(230MB), M2541(230MB) and M2513(540MB, 640MB)

After the drivers are installed, you will have a comfortable environment with your FUJITSU 3.5inch MO disk drive under the Windows NT.

2. INSTALLATION
===============

2.1 HOW TO INSTALL

1) Start Windows NT in administrator mode.
2) Insert the "Drivers disk" on your A drive.
3) Select the "File" menu on the "Program Manager" and then select "Run...".
4) Type "A:\NT\SETUP.EXE" and click "OK".
5) Follow the instruction on your display until the installation is successfully ended.
NOTE: The "Help" button might not operate correctly.
6) Restart Windows NT to activate the device driver.
7) Register the MO format utility in the "Administrative Tools" group. It is located at "\WINNT35\system32\moformat.exe".
8) Run the MO format utility and assign the drive letter. (Follow section 4.6 HOW TO ASSIGN/REMOVE THE DRIVE LETTER(S).)
NOTE: If the drive letter is not assigned, the drive icon of the MO drive will not be displayed on a file managing tool such as "File Manager".


2.2 WHAT THE INSTALLER DOES

The installer "SETUP.EXE"
1) copies "MOFORMAT.EXE" and "MOFORMAT.HLP" into the "\WINNT35\system32\" directory.
2) copies "F3AXMODK.SYS", "F3AXMOKC.SYS" and "F3AXATA2.SYS" into the "\WINNT35\system32\drivers\" directory.


3. DEVICE DRIVER
================

3.1 HOW TO DISABLE
This section shows how to disable the MO device driver. This means that all the installed files will remain and only MO device driver operation is disabled.
1) Open the "Main" --> "Control Panel" --> "Devices" applet.
2) Select "f3axmokc" and press the "Startup..." button, then, a "Device" dialog appears.
3) Select "Disabled" within the "Startup Type" list box and press the "OK" button.
4) Select "f3axmodk" and press the "Startup..." button, and a "Device" dialog appears.
5) Select "Disabled" within the "Startup Type" list box and press the "OK" button.
6) Select "f3axata2" and press the "Startup..." button, and a "Device" dialog appears.
NOTE: There might not be "f3axata2" if no IDE MO drive (e.g. M2541B) is connected to your system. If so, do not follow the steps from 6) to 9).
7) Select "Disabled" within the "Startup Type" list box and press the "OK" button.
8) Select "atapi" and press the "Startup..." button, and a "Device" dialog appears.
9) Select "Boot" within the "Startup Type" list box and press the "OK" button.
10) Press the "Close" button to finish the "Devices" applet.
11) Restart Windows NT.

3.2 HOW TO ENABLE
This section shows how to enable the MO device driver after it has been disabled.
1) Open the "Main" --> "Control Panel" --> "Devices" applet.
2) Select "f3axmokc" and press the "Startup..." button, then, a "Device" dialog appears.
3) Select "System" within the "Startup Type" list box and press the "OK" button.
4) Select "f3axmodk" and press the "Startup..." button, and a "Device" dialog appears.
5) Select "Boot" within the "Startup Type" list box and press the "OK" button.
6) Select "f3axata2" and press the "Startup..." button, and a "Device" dialog appears.
NOTE: There might not be "f3axata2" if no IDE MO drive (e.g. M2541B) is connected to your system. If so, do not follow the steps from 6) to 9).
7) Select "Boot" within the "Startup Type" list box and press the "OK" button.
8) Select "atapi" and press the "Startup..." button, and a "Device" dialog appears.
9) Select "Disabled" within the "Startup Type" list box and press the "OK" button.
10) Press the "Close" button to finish the "Devices" applet.
11) Reconfirm the settings on the above and then restart Windows NT.


4. FORMAT UTILITY
4.1 FUNCTIONS
The MO format utility has 4 functions.
- Formatting MO disk(s).
- Converting MO disk(s).
- Ejecting MO disk(s).
- Assigning drive letter(s).

4.2 HOW TO RUN MO FORMAT UTILITY
1) Select "File" menu on the "Program Manager" and then select "Run...".
2) Type "MOFORMAT.EXE" and click "OK", then MO format utility runs.
NOTE: When operating the MO format utility, exit all file management tools.

4.3 HOW TO FORMAT
This function is used for formatting a MO disk with one of the following three format types.
- SUPER FLOPPY TYPE
- PC-AT HARD DISK TYPE
- NSR TYPE

4.3.1 HOW TO FORMAT WITH SUPER FLOPPY TYPE
1) Run MO format utility. (Refer to section 4.2 HOW TO RUN MO FORMAT UTILITY.)
2) Select the MO drive by pressing the button which indicates the MO disk to be formatted.
3) Select "Volume" menu and select "Format".
4) Select "S-FPD" in the "Format type" list box.
5) If necessary, type the volume ID in the "Volume ID" edit box.
6) To low-level-format the disk, check the "Physical format" check box.
7) To format the disk quickly, check the "Quick format" check box.
8) Press the "OK" button.
9) Select the "Execute" menu and select "Reflect".
10) Follow the instruction on the screen.
11) Exit MO format utility.

4.3.2 HOW TO FORMAT WITH PC-AT HARD DISK TYPE
NOTE: It is necessary to assign at least as many drive letters as there are partitions to be created.
1) Run MO format utility. (Refer to section 4.2 HOW TO RUN MO FORMAT UTILITY.)
2) Select the MO drive by pressing the button which indicates the MO disk you want to be formatted.
3) Select the "Volume" menu and select "Format".
4) Select "PC-AT" in the "Format type" list box.
5) To low-level-format the disk, check the "Physical format" check box.
6) Press the "OK" button.
7) Use the mouse to select the free area.
8) Select the "Partition" menu and select "Create" for primary partitioning or "Create Extended" for extended partitioning.
9) Type the partition size to be created in the "Partition size" edit box.
10) Select the file system from the "File system" combo box.
11) If necessary, type the volume label in the "Label" edit box.
12) To format the disk quickly, check the "Quick format" check box.
13) To create another partition, repeat from step 7).
14) Select the "Execute" menu and select "Reflect".
15) Follow the instruction on the screen.
16) Exit the MO format utility.

4.3.3 HOW TO FORMAT WITH NSR TYPE
NOTE: It is necessary to assign at least as many drive letters as there are partitions to be created.
1) Run MO format utility. (Refer to section 4.2 HOW TO RUN MO FORMAT UTILITY.)
2) Select the MO drive by pressing the button which indicates the MO disk you want to convert.
3) Select the "Volume" menu and select "Format".
4) Select "NSR" in the "Format type" list box.
5) If necessary, type the volume ID in the "Volume ID" edit box.
6) To low-level-format the disk, check the "Physical format" check box.
7) Press the "OK" button.
8) Use the mouse to select the free area.
9) Select the "Partition" menu and select "Create".
10) Type the partition size to be created in the "Partition size" edit box.
11) Select the file system from the "File system" combo box.
12) If necessary, type the volume label in the "Label" edit box.
13) To format the disk quickly, check "Quick format" check box.
14) To create another partition, repeat from step 8).
15) Select the "Execute" menu and select "Reflect".
16) Follow the instruction on the screen.
17) Exit the MO format utility.

4.4 HOW TO CONVERT
This function is used for converting a MO disk which is formatted by another formatter. 
1) Run MO format utility. (Refer to section 4.2 HOW TO RUN MO FORMAT UTILITY.)
2) Select the MO drive by pressing the button which indicates the MO disk to be converted.
3) Select the "Volume" menu and select "Convert Disk".
4) Follow the instruction on the screen.
5) Exit the MO format utility.

4.5 HOW TO EJECT
This function is used to eject the MO disk from the MO drive.
1) Run MO format utility. (Refer section 4.2 HOW TO RUN MO FORMAT UTILITY.)
2) Select the MO drive by pressing the button which indicates the MO disk to be ejected.
3) Select the "Volume" menu and select "Eject".
4) Follow the instruction on the screen.
5) Exit the MO format utility.

4.6 HOW TO ASSIGN/REMOVE THE DRIVE LETTER(S)
This function is used to assign/remove the drive letter(s) for MO drive(s). More than one drive letter can be assigned with this function.
NOTE: At least two drive letters must be assigned to use a two-partition disk.
1) Run MO format utility. (Refer to section 4.2 HOW TO RUN MO FORMAT UTILITY.)
2) Insert an MO disk(s) into the MO drive(s) if one is not inserted.
3) Select an MO drive by pressing the button which indicates the MO disk/drive.
4) Select the "Volume" menu and select "Assign Drive".
5) To assign a drive letter, select a drive letter from the "Select drive" list box and press the "Add" button.
6) To remove a drive letter, select a drive letter from the "Assign drive" list box and press the "Remove" button.
7) Press the "OK" button to exit from the "Assign Drive Letter" dialog.
8) Exit MO format utility.
9) Restart Windows NT.


5. MESSAGES

5.1 WHEN THE MO FORMAT UTILITY IS RUN
"Driver initialization failed."
Meaning: The Fujitsu MO driver is not correctly installed.
Action: Install MO driver again.

"This program is already running."
Meaning: More than two versions of MOFORMAT.EXE cannot be run.
Action: Find the other MOFORMAT.EXE running and use the one.

"This program must be run on Windows NT."
Meaning: MOFORMAT.EXE is run on an operating system other than Windows NT.
Action: Run MOFORMAT.EXE on Windows NT.

"This program must be run by an Administrators group member."
Meaning: A user who does not belong to the Administrators group attempted to run MOFORMAT.EXE.
Action: Log on as an Administrator and run MOFORMAT.EXE.

"MOFORMAT detected that one or more disks that were added, deleted, placed on-line, or placed off-line. Re-assign drive letters."
Meaning: System drive assignment status does not match MOFORMAT.EXE drive letters.
Action: Re-assign the drive letter(s) using MOFORMAT.EXE. Refer to section ####4.4.6#### "HOW TO ASSIGN/REMOVE THE DRIVE LETTER(S)".

5.2 SELECTING A MO DISK.
"The specified drive is not ready. Insert a disk and click Retry button."
Meaning: No MO disk is inserted.
Action: Insert an MO disk and click [Retry]. MOFORMAT.EXE will attempt to access the MO disk again.

"The specified drive is write-protected. Discard the write-protection and click Retry button."
Meaning: Selected MO disk is write-protected.
Action: Slide the write-protection notch to off and click [Retry]. MOFORMAT.EXE will attempt to access the MO disk again.

"MOFORMAT cannot lock the specified drive. Check if the disk is being used by another application."
Meaning: The specified MO drive cannot be used exclusively because it is either already being used by another application or off-line.
Action: Check if another application is using the drive. If so, exit the application.

"The specified disk is not physically formatted. Do you want to format it?"
Meaning: The specified disk is faulty.
Action: Choose [Yes] to display the Format Disk screen to format the disk. 

"The specified disk has an unsupported format type or partition type. Do you want to format the disk?"
Meaning: Operations on partitions cannot be executed, because the specified disk is formatted that is not supported, more than 8 partitions or an incompatible file system.
Action: Choose [Yes] to display the Format Disk screen to format the disk.

"The specified disk has an unsupported format type. Change disks."
Meaning: Operations on partitions cannot be executed, because the specified disk is an NSR disk with NSR file system partition(s), or its sector size is not supported (size other than 512 or 2048 byte).
Action: Change MO disks.


5.3 "Format" DIALOG
"Volume ID syntax error."
Meaning: The specified volume ID exceeded the allowable number of letters.
Action: Enter a volume ID within the allowable number of letters.

5.4 "Create Primary Partition" DIALOG
"Volume label syntax error."
Meaning: The specified volume label exceeded the allowable number of letters.
Action: Type in a volume label within the allowable number of letters.

"Invalid size."
Meaning: The specified partition size falls outside the allowable range.
Action: Specify the value between the minimum and maximum size.

5.5 "Create Logical Drive" DIALOG
"Volume label syntax error."
Meaning: The specified volume label exceeded the allowable number of letters.
Action: Type in a volume label within the allowable number of letters.

"Invalid size."
Meaning: The specified partition size falls outside the allowable range.
Action: Specify the value between the minimum and maximum size.

5.6 "Create Extended Partition" DIALOG
"Invalid size."
Meaning: The specified partition size falls outside the allowable range.
Action: Specify the value between the minimum and maximum size.

5.7 "Reformat" DIALOG
"Volume label syntax error."
Meaning: The specified volume label exceeded the allowable number of letters.
Action: Type in a volume label within the allowable number of letters.

5.8 "Label for Volume X:" DIALOG
"Volume label syntax error."
Meaning: The specified volume label exceeded the allowable number of letters.
Action: Type in a volume label within the allowable number of letters.

5.9 "Assign Drive Letter" DIALOG
"Assign at least one drive letter."
Meaning: The drive letter(s) is not assigned for the drive.
Action: Choosing [OK] in the confirmation screen returns the display to the Assign Drive Letter screen to allow assignment of one or more drive letters.

"Are you sure you want to assign the drive letter?"
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for assigning the drive letter. To assign the drive letter, press the "Yes" button.

"Drive letter assignment failed."
Meaning: The specified drive letter was not assigned.
Action: Re-assign the drive letter.

5.10 EJECTING A MO DISK
"Are you sure you want to eject the MO disk?"
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for ejecting the MO disk. To eject the disk, press the "Yes" button.

"Are you sure you want to eject the MO disk without reflecting the new disk partition?"
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for ejecting the MO disk without reflecting the new format. To eject the disk, press the "Yes" button.

"MO disk ejection failure."
Meaning: An error occurred while ejecting the MO disk.
Action: Try again.

5.11 CONVERTING A MO DISK
"Superfloppy format is converted to DOS type from Windows NT type."
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for converting the MO disk. To convert the disk, press the "Yes" button.

"Superfloppy format is converted to Windows NT type from DOS type."
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for converting the MO disk. To convert the disk, press the "Yes" button.

5.12 DELETING A PARTITION
"All the data in this partition will be destroyed."
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for deleting the specified partition. To delete the partition, press the "Yes" button.

"All the data in this logical drive will be destroyed."
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for deleting the specified partition. To delete the partition, press "Yes" button.

5.13 REFLECTING TO THE MO DISK
"Warning: all the data in the MO disk will be lost after this operation. Are you sure you want to reflect the new disk format?"
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for reflecting the new format to the MO disk. To reflect it, press the "Yes" button.

"Are you sure you want to reflect the new disk format?"
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for reflecting the new format to the MO disk. To reflect it, press the "Yes" button.

5.14 FORMAT FAILURE
"Formatting failure."
Meaning: An error occurred while formatting the MO disk.
Action: Retry the format operation.

5.15 CANCEL THE SETTING
"All the settings are canceled."
Meaning: This is the confirmation message for the setting cancellation.
Action: Press the "Yes" button to cancel the setting or the "No" button to continue setting.

5.16 WHEN EXITING
"New disk configuration has not been reflected or the MO disk is under formatting. If you choose Yes button, the data in the MO disk may be destroyed!"
Meaning: This is the confirmation message to exit without reflecting the new format to the MO disk.
Action: Press "Yes" to exit without reflecting the new format or "No" to continue.

"Exiting is denied. Please wait until the physical formatting is finished."
Meaning: It is not permitted to exit MOFORMAT.EXE during low-level-formatting.
Action: Wait until the low-level-formatting is finished and then try to exit again.

6. TROUBLE SHOOTING
Q1. No drive letter is assigned to the MO drive.
A1. The drive letter is not assigned immediately after the driver is installed or an extra MO drive is connected to your PC. Use MOFORMAT.EXE to assign the drive letter. Refer section 4.6 HOW TO ASSIGN/REMOVE THE DRIVE LETTER(S) for more information.

Q2. The second or subsequent partition(s) is not acceptable.
A2. The drive letter(s) for the second or subsequent partition(s) is not assigned. Use MOFORMAT.EXE to assign the drive letter(s). Refer section 4.6 HOW TO ASSIGN/REMOVE THE DRIVE LETTER(S) for more information.

Q3. Cannot read/write a MO disk.
A3. A disk which is formatted by another formatter might have this problem. In order to solve this problem, use MOFORMAT.EXE to convert the disk to make it readable.
