President's Export Council Subcommittee on Export Administration;
Notice of Partially Closed Meeting

    A partially closed meeting of the President's Export Council
Subcommittee on Export Administration (PECSEA) will be held June 17,
1998, 9:00 a.m., at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Herbert C. Hoover
Building, Room 4832, 14th Street between Pennsylvania and Constitution
Avenues, N.W., Washington, D.C. The Subcommittee provides advice on
matters pertinent to those portions of the Export Administration Act,
as amended, that deal with United States policies of encouraging trade
with all countries with which the United States has diplomatic or
trading relations and of controlling trade for national security and
foreign policy reasons.

Public Session

    1. Opening remarks by the Chairman.
    2. Presentation of papers or comments by the public.
    3. Update on Administration export control initiatives.
    4. Task Force reports.

Closed Session

    5. Discussion of matters properly classified under Executive Order
12958, dealing with the U.S. export control program and strategic
criteria related thereto.
    The General Session of the meeting is open to the public and a
limited number of seats will be available. To the extent time permits,
members of the public may present oral statements to the Committee.
Written statements may be submitted at any time before or after the
meeting. However, to facilitate distribution of public presentation
materials to the Committee members, the Committee suggests that public
presentation materials or comments be forwarded at least one week
before the meeting to the address listed below: Ms. Lee Ann Carpenter,
OAS/EA MS: 3886C, Bureau of Export Administration, U.S. Department of
Commerce, Washington, D.C. 20230.
    A Notice of Determination to close meetings, or portions of
meetings, of the Subcommittee to the public on the basis of 5 U.S.C.
522(c)(1) was approved October 16, 1997, in accordance with the Federal
Advisory Committee Act. A copy of the Notice of Determination is
available for public inspection and copying in the Central Reference
and Records Inspection Facility, Room 6020, U.S. Department of

Meeting of the President's Committee of Advisors on Science and
Technology

ACTION: Notice of meeting.

SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the schedule and summary agenda for a
meeting of the President's Committee of Advisors on Science and
Technology (PCAST), and describes the functions of the Committee.
Notice of this meeting is required under the Federal Advisory Committee
Act.

DATES AND PLACE: June 9, 1998. The White House Conference Center,
Truman Room, Third Floor, 726 Jackson Place, NW., Washington, DC 20500.

TYPE OF MEETING: Open.

PROPOSED SCHEDULE AND AGENDA: The President's Committee of Advisors on
Science and Technology (PCAST) will meet in open session on Tuesday,
June 9, 1998, at approximately 10:00 a.m. to discuss (1) international
S&T issues, (2) public understanding of science and technology, and (3)
topics of Congressional concern. This session will end at approximately
3:30 p.m.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: There will be a time allocated for the public to speak
on any of the above agenda items. Please make your request for the
opportunity to make a public comment five (5) days in advance of the
meeting. Written comments are welcome anytime prior to or following the

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The President's Committee of Advisors on
Science and Technology was established by Executive Order 12882, as
amended, on November 23, 1993. The purpose of PCAST is to advise the
President on matters of national importance that have significant
science and technology content, and to assist the President's National
Science and Technology Council in securing private sector participation
in its activities. The Committee members are distinguished individuals
appointed by the President from non-Federal sectors. The PCAST is co-
chaired by the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology,
and by John Young, former President and CEO of the Hewlett-Packard
Company.
